Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Mason Graduate Research (JMGR)

The Editorial Board of the Journal of Mason Graduate Research (JMGR) invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief to launch the JMGR to the next level of its development. The Editor-in-Chief is the chief executive officer and official representative of the Journal of Mason Graduate Research, and provides leadership to, works collaboratively with, and is accountable to the JMGR Executive Committee and Primary Faculty Advisor for the publication of Mason’s premier online graduate research journal.

Established in 2012 by a small team of dedicated George Mason University (Mason) graduate students, the JMGR is in its second year of online publication. It is committed to providing Mason and the broader academic community a sustainable, quality peer-reviewed, open access journal of graduate and joint graduate/faculty research. In addition, it provides Mason graduate students opportunities to engage in positive collaborative leadership through the peer review and publication processes, as well as Mason faculty opportunities for service to the university through academic mentorships.

The mission of the JMGR is:

  • To annually publish at least one volume of graduate peer-reviewed research by Mason graduate students

  • To provide an innovative, multi- and interdisciplinary forum for academic dialogue open to all Mason graduate and professional students

  • To encourage quality graduate research and writing experiences

  • To provide positive learning experiences for graduate students who engage in rigorous editorial, peer review and publication processes

  • To provide positive leadership experiences and collaborative team efforts among Mason graduate students who produce the journal

  • To provide mentorship experiences for faculty as well as service to the university and academic community at large

  • To utilize the online Open Journal System (OJS) to contribute to university environmental and budgetary goals

  • To provide academic research content freely available online (open access)

  • To contribute to Mason’s overall mission to maintain an international reputation for superior education and public service

This volunteer position is open to enrolled Mason graduate and professional students only. In order to facilitate continuity, the ideal candidate will make a two-year commitment and begin working in a transitional capacity as soon as possible with the departing Editor-in-Chief.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current graduate student in a degree program at George Mason University

  • Excellent communication, collaboration and time management skills

  • Demonstrated academic writing and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Editorial, administrative and leadership experiences, especially working with a team of student volunteers

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
